The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has published the Policy for Repowering of the Wind Power Projects. This policy was issued by a circular dated December 7, 2023.
The MNRE had previously issued the Policy for Repowering of the Wind Power Projects on August 5, 2023. Subsequently, consultations were held with stakeholders and a decision was taken to revise this policy.
The revision seeks to permit repowering or replacement of older generation turbines. These turbines will be replaced with newer generation turbines that are more efficient. Moreover, they also contemplate the refurbishment of wind turbines for life extension beyond design life. This shall be subject to safety and performance assessment.
