The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a reminder to all medical colleges and institutes across the country to submit proposals for the inclusion of new postgraduate (PG) medical qualifications not currently listed in the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations-2023. This public notice was issued on January 1, 2025.
In a communication following its earlier letter dated September 27, 2024, the NMC emphasized that proposals must be submitted both via email at pgmeb.recognition@nmc.org.in and through post. This initiative aims to ensure that all new PG medical qualifications, including Post-Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC), Post-Doctoral Fellowships (PDF), and others, are duly recognized and meet the standards set by the Commission.
The NMC has reiterated that no medical college or institute is authorized to offer or run any unapproved PG medical qualifications. Failure to adhere to this directive will result in strict action under:
- Sections 9.1 and 9.2 of the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations 2023.
- Sections 8(1) and 8(2) of the Maintenance of Standards of Medical Education Regulations 2023.
These provisions empower the NMC to maintain the quality and integrity of medical education in India, ensuring that all postgraduate programs meet established standards and are recognized for practice and further academic pursuits.
Submission Process
Medical colleges and institutes are advised to submit complete and detailed proposals promptly to avoid any administrative or regulatory issues. Proposals must include all relevant details about the qualification, curriculum, and institutional resources supporting the program.
