National Exit Test (NExT) For Ayush Effective From 2021-2022 Batch

Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge) announced that the National Exit Test (NExT) for Ayush will be implemented starting from the 2021-2022 batch. This decision follows recommendations from a committee established to address student concerns regarding the test. This press release was issued on September 5, 2024.

The Minister stated that the NExT will be mandatory for licensing and enrollment in State or National Registers after completing a one-year internship. The test is designed to evaluate practical skills through clinical case scenarios, images, and videos.

Interns who have not completed their internship but have qualified in the NExT will be eligible to register in State or National registration boards only after completing their one-year internship.

The announcement comes after numerous representations from Ayush students regarding the implementation of NExT and a meeting with the Union Minister of State (IC) for Ayush.

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act 2020 and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) Act, 2020 came into force in June and July 2021, respectively. The NExT is required to be conducted by the Commissions under the provisions of these Acts within three years from their enforcement.

The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process while maintaining the quality of Ayush education and healthcare standards.

The NExT is a key examination introduced by the NCISM to assess the clinical competency, medical ethics understanding, and ability to handle medico-legal cases for graduates in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Sowa-Rigpa.

In addition to the NExT announcement, the Minister also introduced a major nationwide campaign, “Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan,” focused on health and wellbeing. The campaign, led by the Ministry of Ayush and the NCISM, aims to promote health through natural practices. Over 4.5 lakh participants, including students, teachers, and practitioners, are expected to be involved. The goal is to enhance public interest in Ayurveda and boost economic growth.
