The National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) has announced amendments to the National Commission for Homoeopathy (Homoeopathy Graduate Degree Course – Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)) Regulations-2022. These amendments, effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, aim to refine the BHMS curriculum and assessment procedures.
Key Amendments:
- A new sub-regulation has been added to Regulation 3, outlining the national and institutional goals of the BHMS program. These goals emphasize the integration of homoeopathy within the broader healthcare system, promoting ethical practice, and fostering research aptitude among students.
2. Regulation 4 has been amended to specify that candidates must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, or Biotechnology. A previous clause (c) has been removed. A new sub-regulation (13) has been added mandating submission of student allotment data by counseling authorities to the NCH.
3. Amendments to Regulations 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, and 12 address various aspects of the curriculum and examination process. Notable changes include:
- Removal of the word “(Final)” after “Fourth” in reference to the BHMS professional year.
- Emphasis on a competency-based dynamic curriculum, to be published and regularly updated on the NCH website.
- Clarification that theory and practical examinations are components of the same subject, requiring students to retake both if they fail either.
- Adjustments to the teaching hours and subject codes in the Second Professional BHMS course (Table 11).
- Changes to the distribution of teaching hours for certain subjects in Table 14 and Table 16.
- Substitution of Table 8 concerning the Scheme of Assessment (Formative and Summative).
4. Regulation 14 now states that students are eligible for compulsory internship after passing all subjects from the First to Fourth Professional examinations including six electives and after obtaining provisional registration from their respective State Board or Council.
5. The word “Final” has been removed from Regulation 18 concerning pass criteria.
