The Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has notified the Multi-Source Edible Oils Grading and Marking Rules, 2023. These Rules have come into force from 5th July, 2023.
The government has mandated the use of a Grade Designation Mark, referred to as the “AGMARK Insignia,” for all packaged Multi-Source Edible Oils. This mark, as outlined in Schedule-I, includes the certificate of authorization number, the term “AGMARK,” the name of the commodity, and its grade. The Agricultural Marketing Adviser or authorized officers are responsible for approving the manner in which the Grade Designation Mark is affixed to or printed on each package.
For tin packing, authorized packers have been granted permission to use Agmark Replica paper slips. This allowance ensures flexibility while maintaining the integrity of the packaging and marking process. Only those who have received permission from the Agricultural Marketing Adviser or an authorized officer are eligible to use the Agmark Replica paper slips.
To provide comprehensive information to consumers, each package must be properly and securely closed and sealed to prevent any spilling or tampering. Additionally, replica numbers, issued by the competent authority, must be clearly marked on each package. This enables tracking and quality control measures throughout the supply chain.
Furthermore, all packages of Multi-Source Edible Oils should contain oil of the same type and grade designation. This requirement ensures that consumers can make informed decisions based on the specific oil type and quality they desire.
The government has also emphasized the need for compliance with the Food Safety and Standards (Labeling and Display) Regulations, 2020. Suitable markings must be made on the packaging to provide clear information about the Multi-Source Edible Oils, further enhancing consumer awareness.
