The Government of Rajasthan on December 13th 2024 issued The Mukhiyamantri Mangla Pashu Bima Yojna (Chief Minister’s Animal Insurance Scheme) to provide insurance coverage for livestock farmers in the state.
The scheme aims to support animal keepers, especially those in rural areas, by offering free insurance for their livestock.
Key Highlights of the Scheme:
Eligibility:
- Janadhaar card holders who are livestock farmers in Rajasthan will be eligible for the scheme.
- Application Process: Animal keepers can apply via the Deema department’s mobile app or web portal between December 13, 2024, and January 12, 2025.
Selection Process:
- Lottery System: Animal keepers will be selected through a lottery system for insurance.
- Priority Selection: Those with Gopal Credit Cards and Lakhpati Didi status will be given priority.
- Reservation: 16% reservation for Scheduled Castes and 12% for Scheduled Tribes is provided.
Insurance Coverage:
- Tagging Requirement: All animals must be tagged to be insured.
- Insurance Details:
- Eligible Animals:
- 2 milch animals (cow, buffalo, or both),
- 10 goats,
- 10 sheep,
- 1 camel per selected animal keeper.
- Premium: There is no premium to be paid by the cattle keeper.
- Insurance Amount: Based on the breed, age, and milk production capacity of the animal, with a maximum coverage of Rs 40,000.
Age Criteria for Animals:
- Cow: 3 to 12 years
- Buffalo: 4 to 12 years
- Goat and Sheep: 1 to 6 years
- Camel: 2 to 15 years
Scheme Implementation:
- The State Insurance and Provident Fund Department will implement the scheme in trust mode, while the Animal Husbandry Department will be the nodal department.
- The insurance process will be carried out at the Gram Panchayat/Revenue Village level. Cattle keepers will be notified via SMS about the schedule.
Insurance Policy:
- After the insurance process, the cattle owner will receive a link to the insurance policy on their mobile via SMS.
- Lost Tags: In case an animal’s tag is lost, the owner must inform the insurance department, and a new tag will be provided within one day.
- Transfer of Ownership: If the animal is sold or gifted, the insurance policy will be considered terminated.
Claims Process:
- In the event of the death of the insured animal, the owner must inform the insurance department immediately.
- A survey by the insurance representative and postmortem by a veterinary doctor will be conducted.
- The claim amount will be disbursed to the animal owner within 21 working days.
- Eligible Incidents for Claims:
- Death caused by natural causes or accidental events such as fire, road accidents, lightning, natural calamities, poisonous grass ingestion, snake or insect bites, or diseases.
- The 21-day waiting period applies for claims, except in cases of accidents like fire, road accidents, or natural calamities.
Claim Notification:
- A claim payment notification will be sent to the cattle keeper’s mobile number after the claim has been processed.
