The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide its notification dated 5th November 2020 has published the draft National Nursing and Midwifery Commission Bill and has invited comments from the general public /stakeholders.
The Central Government shall constitute the National Nursing and Midwifery Commission which shall ensure coordinated and integrated development of education and maintenance of the standards of delivery of services, with periodic revision as specified by the regulations.
The commission shall frame policies and regulate standards for the governance of nursing and midwifery education and training and shall provide basic standards of education, physical and instructional facilities, assessment, examination, training, research, continuing professional education, maximum tuition fee payable in respect of various categories, etc. as may be specified by the regulations.
The Commission shall meet at least once every quarter at such time and place as may be appointed by the Chairperson.
No person shall establish a new nursing and midwifery institution except with the previous permission of the Nursing and Midwifery Assessment and Rating Board and for obtaining permission they shall submit to the Nursing and Midwifery assessment a scheme in such form, containing such particulars, accompanied by such fee, and in such manner, as may be specified by regulations.
