Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issues advisory notification to Medical Infrastructures

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory to Hospitals and Medical Education Institutions in the light of the pandemic COVID 19. These advisory has to be followed till 31st march 2020 and might be reviewed as per the evolving situations.

In light of the given situations the ministry has directed all Hospitals and Medical Education Institutions to take following precautionary measures:

  1. Beds are to be set apart and prepared for creating isolation facilities in all private and public hospitals and should have sufficient additional resources such as masks, gloves and personal protection equipment. Healthcare personnel should be trained for dealing with any foreseeable emergencies.
  2. All the present employees of the institution from all the branches should be sufficiently trained in infection prevention and control practices. The Hospitals required to ensure that they have adequate trained manpower and resource pools for ventilators/ICU care.
  3. The Hospitals have also been mandated to procure sufficient number of ventilators and high flow oxygen masks in preparation for future requirements, and also postpone all non- essential elective surgeries.
  4. All stable patients are to be discharged as early as possible and restrict admission of further admission of stable patients and only single attendant must be appointed to one patient.
  5. All patients are to be educated about cough etiquettes, Do’s and Don’ts, proper use of masks so that there is no discriminative and inefficient usage, they must also maintain good personal hygiene and are to be counselled not to attach any stigmas regarding the virus or its patients or facilities which are treating them.
  6. All hospitals must put up posters etc. to increase awareness amongst patients on Do’s or Don’ts regarding COVID 19.

The notification has been published to ensure that any hospital which may have to take in patients of the pandemic is sufficiently ready and efficient to serve the need of the hour.
