The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) on January 1st 2025 in a bid to streamline and enhance the efficiency of fire safety approvals for industrial buildings, has introduced an online process for submitting FORM 8, as mandated under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006. This new initiative aims to simplify the renewal process and save valuable time for plot holders.
Key Points of the New Online Submission Process:
Online Submission of FORM ‘B’
MIDC has activated an online platform for plot holders to submit FORM ‘B’ for fire safety approval renewal. Along with FORM ‘B,’ plot holders must submit mandatory documents, including:
- A cover letter on the letterhead of the owner or occupier
- A detailed appendix/annexure listing the active and passive firefighting systems installed on the premises
- Copies of AMC/CMAC orders related to the maintenance of these fire protection systems
- Testing reports for various fire safety equipment from the last month, quarter, or half-year, as applicable
- The last site inspection report
- A valid copy of the license of the agency responsible for fire safety, including a valid digital signature
Streamlined Process for Renewing Fire Approval
Previously, plot holders had to visit MIDC offices physically to submit FORM ‘B’ for renewal. The new online system eliminates the need for in-person visits, offering convenience and efficiency for industrial plot holders.
Renewal Process for Manual Approvals
Plot holders who had obtained final fire approvals manually and have not renewed them online will not be able to submit FORM ‘B’ through the new online portal. These plot holders must first renew their final fire NOC online to register in the MIDC system. Once the final fire approval is renewed online, they will be able to use the new system for future submissions.
Submission Windows
The online submission window for FORM ‘B’ will be open twice a year, from January 1 to March 31 and July 1 to September 30. Plot holders must ensure they submit their forms within these periods to comply with the regulations.
Improved Efficiency
The transition to online submissions is aimed at saving time and effort for plot holders, while improving the efficiency of the fire approval process. The move is also in line with the government’s push towards digitization and reducing paperwork for industrial operations.
