Medical & Nursing Colleges Urged to Raise Awareness for World Hypertension Day

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has called upon all medical and nursing colleges in India to actively participate in World Hypertension Day celebrations. The National Medical Commission and the Indian Nursing Council have both published notices urging participation in these activities.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a major health concern. May 17th is observed globally as World Hypertension Day.

The MoHFW has requested all States/UTs, AIIMS, Medical Colleges, Nursing and Pharmacy Colleges, Branches of Indian Medical Association to:

  • Organize awareness activities on May 17th to highlight the importance of blood pressure control.
  • Consider extending awareness activities throughout the month.

A list of recommended activities is provided by the MoHFW, which may include:

  • Educational workshops for students and the public.
  • Monitoring of blood pressure of patients and staff
  • Public health campaigns
  • Pledge ceremonies

The MoHFW will recognize outstanding efforts:

  • Three top performers in each category (states, AIIMS institutions, medical colleges, etc.) will be awarded.
  • All participating institutions will receive certificates of appreciation.

The Medical and nursing colleges are encouraged to submit brief reports with pictures of their activities by June 25, 2024, to npncd.india@gmail.com.
