Maharashtra Proposes New Minimum Wage Rates for Commercial Sectors

On August 12, 2024, the Maharashtra Government issued a notification proposing updated minimum wage rates for employees in commercial establishments, excluding banks and other specified sectors. This draft notification is available for public review and will be considered after a two-month comment period.

The revised wage structure, effective at a future date to be announced, includes:

  • Zone-I: Skilled ₹15,820, Semi-skilled ₹14,765, Unskilled ₹13,630
  • Zone-II: Skilled ₹15,010, Semi-skilled ₹13,955, Unskilled ₹12,820
  • Zone-III: Skilled ₹14,200, Semi-skilled ₹13,145, Unskilled ₹12,010

These rates are inclusive of basic wages, cost of living allowances, and other potential concessions. The final rates will reflect adjustments based on periodic cost-of-living index calculations. Public comments can be submitted to the Commissioner of Labor for consideration.
