The Ministry of Commerce and Industry vide notification dated 21st November, 2023 has issued the Legal Metrology- Material measures of length (Quality Control) Order, 2023. All Legal Metrology- Material
measures of length shall bear the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
The Bureau of Indian Standards shall be the certifying and enforcing authority in respect of the Legal Metrology- Material measures of length. Any person, who contravenes the provisions of this Order, shall be punishable in accordance with the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
This order shall come into force within 6 months of publication. Nothing in this order shall apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export.
