Legal Metrology (Approval of Models) Rules amended: increase in fee for testing weights, measures and Instruments

The Department of Consumer Affairs has issued the Legal Metrology (Approval of Models) (Amendment) Rules, 2019 on 6th November 2019. The amendment has enabled the applicant to carry out compliances like payment of fees for testing weighs and measures and publication of model certificate through online means.

The Rule 11 was amended in such a way the prior obligation to publish the model certificate in the official gazette was replaced by an obligation to publish it in the website of the department.

The Rule 19 is substituted with a new rule that enables applicants to make online payment of fees to laboratories for testing of weights or measures or weighing and measuring instruments and to increase the fees. The fee for testing mechanical type model of weights or measures or weighing and measuring instruments is increased from rupees five thousand to rupees ten thousand and fee for testing of digital or electronic type model of weights or measures or weighing and measuring instruments is increased from rupees ten thousand to rupees twenty-five thousand.
