The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, continues its stride towards fostering innovation and expertise in the technical textiles sector with the commencement of Phase-II of the Internship Initiation Program. Under the umbrella of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), this initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry, empowering students with hands-on experience and industry exposure.
In response to the invitation extended by NTTM, numerous industries and Textile Research Associations (TRAs) came forward, paving the way for the empanelment of companies under the General Guidelines for Grant for Internship Support in Technical Textiles (GIST) 2.0. The recently finalized list of empaneled companies/TRAs marks a significant milestone, opening doors for B.Tech. students (2nd/3rd/4th Year) from diverse specializations to embark on a journey of experiential learning.
The GIST 2.0 guidelines encompass a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines, catering to the evolving needs of the technical textiles industry. Whether it’s Textiles Technology, Civil Engineering, Biotechnology, or Mechanical Engineering, students across various domains have the opportunity to partake in this transformative internship program. This inclusive approach not only broadens the horizons of participating students but also enriches the industry with fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
To ensure the quality and relevance of the internship program, specific eligibility criteria have been established. For students from public institutes, affiliation with recognized universities or institutes endorsed by regulatory bodies like UGC or AICTE is imperative. Additionally, students from premier institutes such as IITs, NITs, and other esteemed institutions are also eligible to apply, further enhancing the competitiveness and prestige of the program.
Similarly, students from private institutes are required to meet stringent criteria, emphasizing excellence and accreditation. Whether it’s securing a position in the top 200 of the NIRF ranking or attaining accreditation from esteemed bodies like NBA or NAAC, the emphasis is on ensuring that participants possess the requisite skills and academic pedigree to contribute meaningfully to the industry.
Educational institutions play a pivotal role in facilitating the dissemination of information and enabling student participation. Hence, it is imperative for higher educational institutions to cascade the details of the internship program to eligible students and facilitate their engagement with empaneled companies/TRAs.
