Landmark Initiatives to Boost Ayush Sector Launched in North East India

The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping & Waterways has launched four major initiatives during a ceremony held at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI). A press release was issued on January 12, 2024.

The highlight of the event was the inauguration of the first-ever dedicated Panchakarma block in the North East region. This facility, situated at CARI, is equipped with modern amenities and will provide Panchakarma therapies to the public at reasonable rates. Covering an area of 9453.30 square feet and constructed at a cost of over ₹7.72 crores, the block aims to scientifically validate Panchakarma therapies and conduct a Panchakarma Training Course to train technicians, ensuring high-quality resources for the Ayush market.

Less than two years ago, on February 12, 2022, the Minister had laid the foundation stones for the ‘Panchakarma Block’ and ‘Pharmacology & Bio Chemistry labs’ at CARI, with the goal of enhancing the institute’s capacity.

The Pharmacology & Bio Chemistry lab, another new initiative, was also inaugurated during the event. Valued at over ₹2.71 crores, this state-of-the-art lab will focus on drug standardization, safety, and efficacy evaluation of Ayurvedic formulations. It will scientifically validate therapeutic and safety potential, develop cost-effective poly herbal formulations, and work towards harnessing the rich biodiversity of the North East region.

Moreover, the Integrated Ayush Wellness Centre will offer treatment and OPD facilities in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy. Additionally, the centre will provide therapies such as Panchakarma, Naturopathy, Unani, and Siddha. A herbal garden is also planned as part of this innovative health center.

These initiatives mark a significant stride in the promotion of traditional healthcare practices in the North East, fostering research, development, and accessibility in the Ayush sector.
