Lakshadweep Announces Holiday Schedule for 2025

The Hon’ble Administrator of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on October 17th 2024 declared the holiday schedule for 2025, specifying which days will be observed as closed and restricted holidays across all government offices.

According to Annexure I, the holidays listed will be recognized as Closed Holidays for the Lakshadweep Administration in 2025. Importantly, these holidays will also apply to banks operating within the Union Territory. Additionally, April 1, 2025, will be a closed holiday for banks, marking the annual closing of bank accounts.

Restricted Holidays

In addition to the closed holidays, each employee is entitled to select two holidays from the list of Restricted Holidays specified in Annexure II. This allows for personal choice in scheduling time off, ensuring that employees can take leave on days that are meaningful to them.

Important Notes on Religious Holidays

The dates for certain religious holidays, including Idul Fitr, Idul Zuha (Bakrid), Muharram, and Milad-Un Nabi (the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed), may change based on the sighting of the moon. For offices located outside Kavaratti, the Deputy Commissioners and Block Development Officers are authorized to declare any changes in holiday dates. In Kavaratti, the Director of GAP will issue the relevant orders.
