On November 18th, 2024, the Administrator of the Union Territory of Ladakh issued a notification outlining the List of Holidays for 2025. The order includes various categories of holidays that will be observed across the Union Territory, affecting government offices, educational institutions, and banks.
The different types of holidays and what they entail:
1. Public Holidays (Annexure A)
Annexure A lists the Public Holidays to be observed throughout the Union Territory of Ladakh in the year 2025. These holidays will be observed in:
- Government Offices
- Educational Institutions
These are mandatory holidays that will be uniformly followed across the entire region for the calendar year 2025.
2. Local Holidays (Annexure B)
Annexure B contains a list of Local Holidays specific to the Union Territory of Ladakh. These holidays are:
- Observed in specific areas of Ladakh.
- Applicable to government offices and educational institutions within those areas.
Local holidays may vary depending on the region, so it is important for employees and students to check if they are affected by any specific local holidays in their area.
3. Restricted Holidays (Annexure C)
Annexure C lists the Restricted Holidays for the Union Territory of Ladakh. In addition to the public holidays listed in Annexure A, employees are allowed to:
- Choose any two holidays from the Restricted Holidays list.
- These holidays are optional and can be availed based on personal preference.
Employees can choose from the list of restricted holidays based on their religious, cultural, or personal significance.
For Banks operating in the Union Territory of Ladakh, holidays will be regulated as per the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Annexure D outlines the specific holidays applicable to banks. These holidays will follow the guidelines under the Act, which may include a mix of public and restricted holidays that are important for banking operations.
