Kerala’s Endeavor: Collaboration for Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

The Director of Technology Training has officially inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute for Medical Science and Technology, aimed at streamlining activities pertaining to safeguarding intellectual property, facilitating technology transfer, and fostering commercialization. Minister of Higher Education and Social Justice Department, highlighted the significance of this collaboration. This Notification was published on 28.02.2024.

TIPS @ Timed, serving as a regional hub for technology transfer under TyMed, will administer these services to educators, students, researchers, and entrepreneurs within engineering colleges. Various initiatives such as seminars, webinars, training programs, and workshops focusing on intellectual property rights and technology transfer are slated to be organized. Additionally, comprehensive assistance will be extended for patent search, patentability reports, patent drafting, patent filing, and novelty search. This endeavor will also encompass guiding students, researchers, and start-ups in patenting their innovations and facilitating their commercialization, alongside offering expertise in intellectual property valuation. The formulation of an intellectual property policy for governmental institutions is presently under deliberation. During the ceremony graced by the Minister’s presence, the MoU was formally endorsed by the Director of Technical Education and SCTIMST – Timed’s Chief Executive Officer, Balram.
