The Government of Karnataka has issued notifications on draft rules amending the Karnataka Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2012, and the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Recognition of Primary and Secondary Schools) Rules, 1999. The amendments are proposed under the authority of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, and the Karnataka Education Act, 1983. The Notifications are issued on June 11, 2024.
Amendments of the Karnataka Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2012:
- For the words, “Validity of such recognition shall be for five years”, the words and figures “Validity of such recognition shall be for ten years for the first time renewal and permanent for the next time subject to provisions relating to the withdrawal of recognition of schools by District Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI), shall be substituted.
Objections or suggestions can be submitted to the Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of School Education and Literacy M.S. Building, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Veedhi, Bengaluru-560001, within fifteen days of publication of the notification.
Amendment of the Karnataka Educational Institutions (Recognition of Primary and Secondary Schools) Rules, 1999:
- It introduces a new provision regarding the processing fee for recognition applications. If an application is rejected, the processing fee will be valid for a maximum of three submissions within the same academic year. After three rejections, a fresh application with an additional non-refundable fee is required.
- Also, it aligns the duration of recognition with the provisions of the Karnataka Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules, 2012, extending it to ten years for the first renewal and making it permanent thereafter, subject to provisions of the Act.
