Karnataka Government Extends Deadline for High Security Registration Plates (HSRP)

The Government of Karnataka has issued a notification on January 3rd 2025 extending the deadline for affixing High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) on all classes of vehicles registered prior to 1st April 2019. This extension has been made in line with previous notifications issued over the course of 2023 and 2024.

The new deadline for completing the HSRP affixing process is now January 31, 2025.

Key Details of the Notification:

  • Extended Deadline: Vehicle owners now have until 31st January 2025 to ensure the installation of HSRP on their vehicles registered before April 1, 2019.

  • No Other Changes: The notification confirms that there are no other changes to the original guidelines outlined in Notification No. TD 193 TDO 2021, dated 17th August 2023. The extension is solely for the deadline, and all other provisions of the previous notifications remain unchanged.

Purpose of the HSRP:

The introduction of High Security Registration Plates is part of the government’s effort to enhance vehicle security and reduce the risk of vehicle-related crimes. The plates include unique features like a laser-etched code, which helps in tracking and identification.

Impact:

This extension provides vehicle owners more time to comply with the HSRP installation requirement, ensuring they meet the new security standards set by the government. Vehicle owners are urged to complete the affixing process before the extended deadline to avoid any penalties or legal issues.

The Karnataka Government remains committed to improving vehicle security and traffic management systems, as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the state’s transportation infrastructure.
