Karnataka Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2024

The Government of Karnataka on 15th February, 2024 issued A Bill which pertains to the Karnataka Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2024, it aims to further amend the Karnataka Co-operative Societies Act, 1959. The bill outlines multiple amendments to various sections of the Act, including changes to definitions, voting rights, election processes, and the management of co-operative societies. 

One significant amendment involves the establishment of a Co-operative Election Wing under the control of the Registrar, abolishing the Co-operative Election Authority. Additionally, the bill proposes provisions for reservation of seats for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, and women in the boards of secondary, federal, and apex co-operative societies to provide social justice and representation to underprivileged sections of society. 

The amendments encompass a wide range of areas, including voting rights, election processes, reservation of seats, and the establishment of the Co-operative Election Wing. These changes are aimed at ensuring representation, social justice, and efficient management within co-operative societies. The inclusion of a Statement of Objects and Reasons, Financial Memorandum, and Memorandum Regarding Delegated Legislation adds transparency and context to the proposed amendments, providing insight into the motivations, financial implications, and delegated legislative powers associated with the bill.
