Ministry of Commerce & Industry vide a Public Notice dated 20th July, 2021 enlisted Kamarajar port as a designated port for import of unshredded metallic scrap and waste. The designated ports in the country for import of scrap are Chennai, Cochin, Ennore, JNPT, Kandla, Mormugao, Mumbai, New Mnaglore, Paradip, Tuticorin, Vishakapatnam, Pipava,
Mundra, Kolkata, Krishnapatnam, Kattupalli, Hazira and Kamarajar. No exceptions are allowed even in the case of EOUs and SEZs.
