Jharkhand PCB issues show-cause notice to 215 hospitals for non-compliance of norms

The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board on 2nd July 2020 has issued show-cause notice to 215 hospitals in the state for allegedly ignoring the rules for disposal of bio-medical waste.

Consent to establish/consent to operate for the bedded health care facility has to be obtained by the occupier of the Health care facility and for generating and handling bio-medical waste an authorization must be obtained.

The Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has been organizing several sessions at regular intervals with various stakeholders and representatives from hospitals, clinics, dispensaries etc to resolve the issues related to BMWM rules, use of bar code system and to educate regarding various orders passed by Hon’ble NGT for effective implementation of bio-medical waste rules, 2016.

Further Jharkhand PCB has slashed the fees for consent to establish, consent to operate and authorization under the BMWM rules 2016 by 50% to promote compliance of BMWM Rules, 2016.

Whereas in spite of various initiatives and efforts taken by the state PCB, the notified hospital hasn’t complied with the direction issued by the board, therefore the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board has issued the show-cause notice to which the hospitals shall submit their reply within 15th July 2017 to the member secretary, if not legal action as per the provisions of the relevant law shall be initiated against the hospital for non-compliance.
