In a notice dated 17 June, 2019, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India notifies all the stakeholders in regards to the following:
- FSSAI has notified Authorized Officers at 416 locations to regulate import of food items.
- It has been proposed to notify 132 Point of Entries as per an enclosed list which enlists seaport, airports, Inland Container Depot (ICD), Land Customs Stations (LCS) and Special Economic Zones (SEZ) as food import entry points. The said list has been compiled on the basis of food imports data that was received past years received from DGCI&S and CBIC. The proposal has been made for setting up a strong regulatory framework for food at the point of entries and for the prevention of the entry of sub-standard/unsafe food into the country.
- FSSAI invites suggestions and comments from all stakeholders (before finalizing the food import entry points), in order to facilitate the ease of doing business and to ensure the import of safe food in the country.
