An educational initiative focusing on ‘Promoting Sustainable Fishing Practices and Enhancing Sea Safety’ was arranged by the Azhikode Fisheries Village Management Council (FVMC) in the district. The event took place at the 4 Seasons Hall in Puthanpally, Azhikode, with the inauguration conducted by the President of Eriyad Gram Panchayat. The presiding officer was a member of the Eriyad gram panchayat, and the chief guest was a member of the Mathilakam block panchayat. This Notification was published on 08.03.2024.
Key sessions were facilitated by experts from Kochi CIFNET, Azhikode Fisheries Station, Assistant Fisheries Director, and Kodungallur M.F. Fire and Safety Officer, aimed at imparting crucial knowledge on sustainable fishing methods and sea safety measures. The audience included fishermen from the Azhikode Fish Landing Centre, Coastal Police, representatives from Boat Owners Association, Coastal Vigilance Committee members, FLC Management Committee representatives, as well as other stakeholders from the fisheries sector. Leading the discussions were officers from the Marine Enforcement and Vigilance Wing. The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by AFEO. This initiative was part of the broader spectrum of activities orchestrated by the Fisheries Department in collaboration with the State Fisheries Management Council to promote responsible fishing practices and ensure the well-being of fishermen and marine ecosystems.
