The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has announced the introduction of the Insecticides (Second Amendment) Rules, 2024. These Rules aim at regulating the use of certain insecticides across the country. They were notified on March 21, 2024 and are effective from that date.
The amendment introduces a new provision to Rule 10 of the Insecticides Rules, 1971. This provision, denoted as a proviso, pertains to the application for the grant of a license to carry out pest control operations using Glyphosate and its derivatives.
As per the proviso, any individual seeking a license for pest control operations involving Glyphosate and its derivatives will be automatically granted a license if the licensing officer fails to approve the application within thirty days of its submission. This provision is applicable upon submission of the application along with a fee of one thousand rupees for all designated operation areas involving the use of Glyphosate and its derivatives.
This amendment aims to streamline the licensing process for pest control operations involving Glyphosate and its derivatives, ensuring timely approval and adherence to regulatory standards.
