Indian Nursing Council Introduces Three New Post Basic Diploma Regulations

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has notified three new Specialty Nursing Residency Programs. These notifications were issued on October 21, 2024.

These notifications cover the following Post Basic Diploma in Specialty Nursing Residency Programs:

  1. Emergency and Disaster,
  2. Palliative Care and
  3. Cardiothoracic

These programs aim to equip nurses with advanced skills and knowledge to address the growing demand for specialized care in these critical areas.

Emergency and Disaster Nursing
  1. Addresses the increasing need for nurses trained to handle complex and intensive care situations during emergencies and disasters.
  2. Focuses on providing competent care at both institutional and community levels.
  3. Curriculum includes foundational courses in communication, patient education, and evidence-based practice, along with specialized courses in emergency assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of various conditions.

Palliative Care Nursing
  1. Responds to the rising demand for palliative care facilities and trained personnel.
  2. Equips nurses to provide high-quality, family-centered care for patients with serious illnesses.
  3. Curriculum includes foundational courses and specialized training in pain and symptom management, psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care, and end-of-life care.

Cardiothoracic Nursing
  1. Addresses the growing burden of heart-related problems in India.
  2. Aims to prepare nurses to provide competent care to patients with complex cardiothoracic conditions.
  3. Curriculum includes foundational courses and specialized training in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and management of specific cardiothoracic conditions.

These new programs reflect the changing healthcare landscape in India. These programs will empower nurses to become valuable assets in providing comprehensive and high-quality care to patients across the country.
