Indian Nursing Council Announces New Postgraduate Residency Programs

The Indian Nursing Council (INC) has introduced two new postgraduate residency programs: Nurse Practitioner in Family Health (NPFH) and Nurse Practitioner in Neonatal Nursing (NPNeoN). These specialized programs aim to enhance the competency of nurses in crucial healthcare areas.

Key Points

Both programs are designed for registered B.Sc. nurses and emphasize a strong clinical component with 85% practical training and 15% theory.

The NPFH Program focuses on preparing nurses to deliver advanced care to acutely and chronically ill patients in primary and secondary care settings, using a family-centered approach. While the NPNeoN Program prepares nurses to provide specialized care for critically ill neonates in tertiary care settings, aiming to improve survival rates and minimize complications.

Both programs are two years long. Applicants must be registered B.Sc. nurses and may require additional qualifications or experience depending on the program.

These programs are expected to:

  1. Improve the quality of care for patients in family health and neonatal settings.
  2. Address the growing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.
  3. Empower nurses to take on advanced practice roles.
