India Launches National Legal Metrology Portal (eMaap) for Streamlined Compliance

The Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, is developing the National Legal Metrology Portal (eMaap) to revolutionize the way businesses and consumers interact with the legal metrology system. A press release on this new development was issued on December 4, 2024.

This initiative aims to create a unified national platform that integrates various state-level legal metrology portals, streamlining processes and enhancing transparency.

Key Features of eMaap

eMaap will serve as a single point of access for businesses and consumers, eliminating the need to interact with multiple state portals.

The portal will simplify processes like license issuance, renewal, and amendment, as well as verification and stamping of weighing and measuring instruments.

eMaap will promote transparency by providing a centralized database of licenses, certificates, and enforcement actions.

The portal will generate valuable data that can be used to inform policy decisions and improve the efficiency of the legal metrology system.

The development of eMaap is a step towards modernizing the legal metrology system in India. By digitizing processes and creating a unified platform, the government aims to ensure fair trade practices, protect consumer interests, and promote economic growth.\
