Implementation of Awareness & Outreach Under PM Surya Ghar

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released detailed guidelines for an “Awareness & Outreach” campaign to promote the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

Scheme Overview

This government initiative aims to incentivize rooftop solar installations in residential homes across India. The program aims to achieve 1 crore rooftop solar installations and provide free or low-cost electricity to participating households.

Campaign Goals

  1. Raise awareness among electricity consumers, particularly those in the residential sector.
  2. Encourage residential consumers to participate in the scheme and install rooftop solar panels.
  3. Educate consumers about the entire process of setting up a rooftop solar system.
  4. Equip consumers with clear technical information to make informed decisions.

Campaign Implementation

The National Programme Implementing Agency (NPIA) will oversee the campaign at the national level. State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) will manage the campaign within their respective states. Collaboration with other ministries at the central and state levels is encouraged.

Self-help groups and cooperatives may be involved in disseminating information. Partner ministries can develop their own awareness plans with approval from MNRE.

Awareness plans from DISCOMs (power distribution companies), state agencies, and interested ministries will be submitted to the NPIA for review and approval by MNRE.

An Awareness and Outreach Committee will be established to assess and approve campaign plans and budgets.

Campaign Monitoring

The NPIA will monitor communication plans and create a calendar for tracking awareness activities.

Implementing agencies must adhere to budget limitations set within their approved plans.

Regular progress reports will be submitted to the committee through the NPIA.

Expected Impact

This awareness campaign is expected to significantly increase public understanding of the PM Surya Ghar scheme. By providing clear information and addressing potential concerns, the campaign aims to motivate residential consumers to adopt rooftop solar solutions, contributing to India’s renewable energy goals.
