In a proactive move to safeguard public health, Kerala’s Health Minister has issued a stern directive regarding the mandatory health cards for employees in food establishments across the state. Highlighting a recent special drive by the Food Safety Department, it was revealed that some workers lacked these essential health cards, while others had neglected to renew them. The minister emphasized that stringent actions would be taken by the Food Safety Department against those who fail to comply within four weeks. This notification was published on July 19, 2024.
Recent statistics underscore the state’s rigorous food safety efforts: 7,584 tests were conducted in the last one and a half months alone. These inspections led to the suspension of 206 establishments and the imposition of fines totaling ₹28,42,250. Moreover, significant quantities of both statutory and surveillance samples were collected, with hundreds of rectification and compounding notices issued. Legal proceedings were initiated against dozens of institutions to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Beyond routine inspections, specialized drives like the Shawarma Special Squad, Operations Monsoon, and Life have further bolstered enforcement measures. These efforts reflect Kerala’s unwavering commitment to maintaining stringent food safety standards and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
