Govt Extends Public Utility Status for Key Industrial Units

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a notification on 29th January 2025 extending the declaration of certain industrial undertakings under the Ministry of Finance as public utility services. The extension applies to the services engaged in the following industrial undertakings:

India Government Mints in Kolkata, Noida, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

    India Security Press, Nashik.

    Security Printing Press, Hyderabad.

    Security Paper Mill, Hoshangabad.

    Bank Note Press, Dewas.

    Currency Note Press, Nashik Road.

The Central Government had initially declared these undertakings as public utility services for a six-month period beginning 30th July 2024 through the notification S.O. 3046(E). As public interest requires, the government has now decided to extend this declaration for another six months from 30th January 2025.

This extension ensures that the services in these critical establishments remain recognized as public utility services under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, facilitating their uninterrupted operation and maintaining industrial harmony. The extension will remain in effect until 30th July 2025.
