Government Unveils Guidelines for Skilling Scheme under National Green Hydrogen Mission

The Government of India has officially sanctioned the “Guidelines for scheme on skilling, up-skilling and re-skilling under the National Green Hydrogen Mission” for the period from FY 2023 – 24 to FY 2029 – 30. With a total outlay of Rs. 35 crore, this scheme aims to address the critical need for skilled workforce in the emerging field of green hydrogen technology. This notice was issued on March 16, 2024.

The scheme aims to undertake comprehensive skill gap analysis across various segments of the Green Hydrogen ecosystem, create and update a registry of skills required by the value chain, design and develop curricular elements for educational institutions at different levels, develop qualification packs and training content, encourage private sector participation, enable cross-utilization of infrastructure for skill training, lay down criteria for identifying institutions for delivering skilling courses, create a certified pool of trainers, implement learner-centric training programs, and establish model Centers of Excellence (CoEs) for advanced skilling.

The implementation methodology will adhere to detailed scheme guidelines outlined in the document, ensuring a systematic approach towards achieving the objectives.

Funding for the scheme will be sourced from the budget provisions allocated under the Hydrogen Mission Head, highlighting the government’s commitment to investing in skill development for green hydrogen technology.

The implementing agency for this scheme will be notified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in consultation with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), underscoring the collaborative efforts of various government bodies in driving skill development initiatives.

This scheme is poised to play a crucial role in equipping the workforce with the necessary skills to contribute to India’s transition towards a sustainable and green energy future.
