The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has announced the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2023-24 to collect data on the manufacturing sector across the country. This announcement was made by a notification dated July 31, 2024.
The survey will cover the entire country and gather information on various aspects such as assets, liabilities, receipts, expenses, employment, and labor costs.
Statistics officers will be appointed to oversee the data collection process. They will issue notices to factories and establishments, requiring them to submit information by a specified date. The date for submission of information by each informant would be mentioned in the notice and would generally fall during August, 2024 to July, 2025.
The collected data will be processed by the Industrial Statistics Wing and the Labour Bureau.
Subject and purpose for collection of statistics
The Annual Survey of Industries 2023-24 will cover statistics relating to growth, composition and structure of organized manufacturing sector comprising activities related to manufacturing processes, repair services, gas and water supply and cold storage.
Nature of informants for whom data may be collected
The informants will be the owners or occupiers or persons in-charge, of factories or of establishments registered under the Beedi & Cigar Workers (Conditions of Employment) Act,1966 or the units registered under Companies Act, 2013, Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, Societies Registration Act, Cooperative Societies Act, Khadi and Village Industries Board, Directorate of Industries (District Industries Centre).
Reference period
Information shall be furnished for the financial year commencing from April 1, 2023 and ending on
March 31, 2024 or for the Accounting Year of a unit ending on any date between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024.
Nature of information to be collected
The information required relates to assets and liabilities, receipts, expenses, input items (indigenous and imported), products and by-products, distributive expenses, employment and labour cost, working days, man-days worked, absenteeism, labour turnover, man-hours worked, earning and social security benefits.
The survey aims to provide insights into the growth, composition, and structure of the organized manufacturing sector. The information collected will be used for policymaking and planning purposes.
