Government Seeks Public Feedback on Drug Distribution Practices

The Central Drugs Standard Organisation (CDSCO) is seeking public feedback on draft guidelines for Good Distribution Practices (GDP) for pharmaceutical products. These guidelines aim to ensure proper storage and handling of medicines throughout the supply chain, from manufacturers to retailers. This circular was issued on August 9, 2024.

The draft guidelines, prepared in line with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, are intended to be incorporated as a schedule under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945. This move follows concerns about inconsistent storage practices throughout the pharmaceutical supply chain, potentially impacting the quality and safety of medicines.

The government emphasizes the importance of public participation in shaping these guidelines. Stakeholders, including industry representatives, healthcare professionals, and consumers, are encouraged to submit their comments and suggestions by September 8, 2024. Feedback can be submitted via email to dci@nic.in and qmscdsco@gmail.com.

Implementing robust GDP practices is crucial for maintaining the integrity and effectiveness of medicines. Public engagement in this process will help ensure the guidelines are comprehensive and effectively address concerns surrounding drug storage and handling.
