The Government of Uttar Pradesh notified the minimum rates of wages payable to the employees employed in agricultural employment in the state of Uttar Pradesh on July 9th 2024.
Key Updates:
The Minimum Rates of Wages have been revised to Rs. 6162/- per month or Rs. 237/- per day for the following types of agricultural works, for the whole of Uttar Pradesh:
- Cultivation and tillage of soil, production, cultivation, growing and harvesting of any agricultural commodity, preparation for marketing and delivery to storage or to market or to carriage for transportation to market of farm produce and any practices incidental to or in conjunction with farm operations including mushroom cultivation in farms of all sizes, including those within six kilometers of municipal or cantonment limits.
- Forestry or timbering operation performed by conjunction with farm operations.
- Dairy farming, raising of livestock, beekeeping, poultry farming and their incidental operations.
Payment Options
Employers can pay the minimum wages in cash or, if the employees agree, partly in cash and partly in kind (like food or goods). However, the total value must always be at least the minimum wage.
Hourly Wage Rates
For jobs paid by the hour, the rate should not be less than 1/6 of the daily wage. This ensures fair compensation for part-time or hourly workers.
Wages for Adolescents and Children
Young workers (adolescents and children) must be paid the same minimum time-rate wages as adult workers. This ensures they are not exploited with lower wages.
Higher Existing Wages
If workers are already receiving higher wages than the minimum set by this law, they will continue to receive the higher amount. This rule ensures that workers benefit from their current pay rates without any reduction.
The revised rates shall come into effect from April 1st 2024
