Government of Telangana proposes to amend Telangana factories rules 1950 to make it mandatory for employers to give personal protective equipment to workers

The Labour Employment Training and Factories Department, Government of Telangana through its order dated 3rd December 2019 has issued a preliminary notification for amending Rule 61-N of Telangana Factories Rules, 1950 which deals with protective equipment.

Proposed Amendment:

 Through this amendment in Rule 61-N, now every employer shall mandatorily provide with -Personal Protective equipment’s (PPEs) and such PPEs shall conform to the relevant National Standard. The equipment shall be maintained in god condition and no charge what so ever shall be charged by the occupier from the workers for provision of such PPEs.

The list of Personal Protective equipment’s as per the proposed amendment are as follows:

  1. Safety Helmet;
  2. Protective Footwear;
  3. Safety Goggles and Spectacles;
  4. Equipment for Eye and Face Protection during Welding;
  5. Gloves and Protective Clothing;
  6. Ear Protection when exposed to Noise;
  7. Respiratory Protection; and
  8. Other Protective Equipment

Any objections or suggestions on the above shall be addressed to the Principal Secretary to Government, Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, Telangana Secretariat, Hyderabad within 45 days from the date of its publication in the extraordinary issue of gazette on 5 December 2019.
