The State Government of Tamil Nadu on 7th June 2021 has waived the payment of penalty for the delay in registering births and deaths that occurred from 1st Jaunary 2020.
As per the Registration of Birth and Death (RBD) Act, 1969, a Normal period of 21 days (from the date of occurrence) has been prescribed for reporting the birth, death and still birth event and in case of any delay in registering the birth or death a penalty of Rs.100 to 500 is charged.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has announced that the penalty will be waived and the Government itself will take on the loss of revenue on account of the waiver from 1st January 2020.
