Government of Karnataka permits private medical establishments to run COVID care centres

The State Government of Karnataka in its notification dated 9th July 2020 has allowed private medical establishments registered under Karnataka private medical establishments act to establish and manage Coronavirus (COVID-19) care centres in collaboration with hotel facilities.

Separate registration/permission for such hotels is not required but arrangement shall be duly informed to concerned district health and family welfare/Chief Health Officer-BBMP officer via a letter/e-mail.

Further the private medical centres have been directed to ensure the following:

  • The private CCCs must have all the facilities and ensure availability of medical staff and tele-monitoring as per guidelines, health monitoring of covid patients, treatment protocol, availability of medical supplies, adequate training of CCC staff on infection and prevention protocols, appropriate diet and ancillary facilities, disposal of biomedical waste as per the rules and follow discharge protocols.
  • Category-wise package rates must be displayed and communicated to the patient in advance and there is no scope for conflict in this regard. The maximum ceiling limit for charges (per day) is: Rs 8,000 for economy/budget hotel, Rs 10,000 for three-star hotel and Rs 12,000 for a five-star hotel.
  • The Private CCCs must dispose biomedical waste as per guidelines and the facilities must have 24X7 ambulances at the premises to shift patients as and when necessary.
  • Further, the facility shall ensure daily reporting to District Surveillance Officer (DSO) regarding number of persons admitted, discharged, referred and health status.
