The Government of Karnataka vide circular dated 22.05.2021, stated that lnterferon alpha 2b, that is proven to be effective in chronic hepatitis B & c infection, is found to be effective for viral clearance in Covid-19 patients as well. lnterferon Lambda showed merit in its usage in clearing virus effectively at day 7, improvement in respiratory symptoms and lowering of LDH levels. For patients with moderate Covid-19 infection, treatment with Pegylated IFN alpha can induce early viral clearance and limit the spread in the community and improve their clinical status. It also decreases the amount and duration of supplemental oxygen required and provides a viable treatment option during the current pandemic situation. The addendum is to be followed by all the concerned medical professionals.
