The Government of Chhattisgarh issued special powers to the Tahsildar, a local revenue officer on July 19th 2024. These powers are outlined in Section 115 of the Chhattisgarh Land Revenue Code, 1959.
If you own land in Chhattisgarh, keeping your land records accurate is crucial. The State Government has made it easier for landowners by granting special powers to the Tahsildar.
- Fixing Name and Address Mistakes: If there’s a clerical error in your name, surname, caste, or address in the land records, the Tahsildar can correct it. This is especially helpful if a simple typo has caused discrepancies in your documents.
- Correcting Remarks: Sometimes, incorrect information might be entered in the remark’s column of your land records. The Tahsildar has the authority to fix these mistakes, ensuring that all comments and notes are accurate.
- Separating Khasra Numbers: If Khasra numbers (unique identifiers for plots of land) have been combined by mistake, the Tahsildar can separate them. This ensures each piece of land is correctly identified.
- Irrigated vs. Non-Irrigated Land: Mistakes can happen when recording whether your land is irrigated or non-irrigated. The Tahsildar can correct these entries to reflect the true status of your land.
- Single vs. Multiple Harvests: Similarly, if there’s an error in recording whether your land supports single or multiple harvests, the Tahsildar can fix it. Accurate records of land productivity are important for agricultural planning and resource management.
Accurate land records are essential for many reasons:
- Legal Security: Proper records prevent disputes and legal issues regarding land ownership.
- Government Schemes: You might be eligible for various government schemes and benefits that require accurate land information.
- Selling or Transferring Land: When you sell or transfer land, accurate records ensure a smooth process.
By empowering the Tahsildar with these responsibilities, the Chhattisgarh Government is making land management more efficient and reliable for all landowners.
