The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued an order on the financial outlay and funds for the implementation of the new solar power scheme specifically designed for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) habitations and villages. This order was issued on October 18, 2024.
The new solar power scheme is implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) and the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM JUGA).
Key Components of the Scheme
- The scheme aims to provide off-grid solar systems to 1 lakh un-electrified households in tribal and PVTG areas.
- Solar street lighting and off-grid solar systems will be installed in 1500 Multi-Purpose Centers (MPCs) in PVTG areas.
- 2000 public institutions will be solarized through off-grid solar systems.
Financial Outlay
The government has approved a total financial outlay of Rs. 915 crore for the scheme. The funds will be allocated from the Department of Alternative and New Energy (DAPST) of the MNRE.

Implementation
The scheme will be implemented starting from the date of issuance of administrative approval and its guidelines. Existing approvals granted under the previous scheme will continue to be valid.
This scheme will help to improve the quality of life in tribal and PVTG areas by providing access to electricity. It will also contribute to India’s renewable energy goals and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
