General Elections 2024: Punjab Sets Closed Days for Employees to Vote

The Labour Department of Punjab on September 17th 2024 notified regarding the closed days for the employees on account of the General Elections to the Legislative Assembly 2024.

Key Details of the Notification

Closed Days

The following dates have been designated as ‘closed days’ for employees working in registered shops and commercial establishments in Punjab:

  • 18th September 2024 (Wednesday) – Polling day for Jammu and Kashmir
  • 25th September 2024 (Wednesday) – Polling day for Jammu and Kashmir
  • 1st October 2024 (Tuesday) – Polling day for Jammu and Kashmir
  • 5th October 2024 (Saturday) – Polling day for Haryana

These closed days will ensure that employees have the time needed to cast their votes without conflicting work responsibilities.

Exception for Weekly Off Days

It’s important to note that the specified closed days will not apply if they coincide with the employees’ regular weekly off days. The notification states that the closed days shall not be considered ‘closed’ if they fall between:

  • 18th and 24th September 2024 (for 18th September)
  • 25th September and 1st October 2024 (for 25th September)
  • 1st October and 7th October 2024 (for 1st October)

This provision ensures that workers still receive their due time off while allowing flexibility for those who might already have a day off scheduled.
