FSSAI to monitor activities of Temporary Food Businesses during Festivities

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued an advisory urging all Food Business Operators (FBOs) carrying out business activities during festivities to obtain FSSAI registration/ licence and comply with hygiene standards. This advisory was issued on 30th October, 2023.

The FSSAI has observed that individuals or non-profit/ social organisations carry out various business activities during festivities, seasonal events or fairs. These activities include temporary manufacturing, food vending stalls or distribution of food products. The FSSAI has observed that these activities are often in the absence of FSSAI registrations/ licences and without adhering to prescribed hygiene standards.

The FSSAI has emphasised that every individual or organisation carrying out any food business activity is an FBO. This covers activities that are both for profit and those that are not for profit. It also covers activities that are temporary in nature.

Hence, all such individuals or organisations must mandatorily obtain FSSAI registration/ licence and follow the prescibed hygiene standards.

For ease of application processes, the FSSAI has a mobile application called ‘Food Safety Connect’. A user manual to the app has also been provided by FSSAI.
