The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India vide its notification dated 22nd April 2022, has decided to conduct a special drive to review the licenses granted to manufacturers of packaged drinking water (PDW) and Mineral water (MW).
FSSAI in its earlier notification, directed the food business operators (FBO) to upload BIS license or copy of letter indicating recording of application for BIS license on FoSCoS portal at the time of applying for new license for PDW and MW from FSSAI and it has been further directed that after obtaining BIS license, the FBO shall furnish details in online annual return available in FoSCoS.
However FSSAI has received number of compliance, that manufacturers of PDW and MW are manufacturing the said products on FSSAI license without BIS certification, therefore FSSAI has directed the commissioners of food safety of all States/UTs to review the licenses granted to manufacturers and verify whether the said licensees have furnished the valid BIS certificate through FoSCoS portal.
Further, in case, where such certificates are not available, notices shall be issued to the FBOs to furnish the same in time bound manner failing which such license may be cancelled/suspended as per FSS (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulation, 2011.
