The Food Safety and Standard Authority of India(FSSAI) vide notification dated 7th February 2020, has published the Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations 2020.
The FSSAI through the notification seeks to implement the recommendation of the National Green Tribunal to permit use of food grade packaging materials for packaged water in order to reduce plastic usage. In such circumstances requirement for transparent bottle is also exempted.
Specific migration limits are set for certain materials like Antimony, phthalic acid used in plastic intended to be contact with food.
