The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has notified the Centre of Excellence for Research and Analysis of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (CERANS) as a laboratory for testing ‘Food for Sportsperson’ products for prohibited substances declared by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The FSS (Health Supplements, Nutraceuticals, Food for Special Dietary Use, Food for Special Medical Purpose, Functional Food, and Novel Food) Regulations, 2016, mandate that ‘Food for Sportsperson’ products must not contain any prohibited substances listed by WADA.
FSSAI has accredited CERANS, located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to conduct tests for these prohibited substances under the discipline of ‘Chemical-Nutritional Supplement.’

This notification aims to strengthen food safety regulations and ensure the integrity of sports nutrition products in India. By providing a designated laboratory for testing prohibited substances, FSSAI is supporting athletes and consumers in making informed choices about sports supplements.
