FSSAI issues order for certificate of analysis for testing of imported proprietary foods

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in its order dated 11th October 2019, has directed the authorised officers of FSSAI that the certificate of analysis for testing of imported proprietary foods shall be accepted only if it is issued by an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 17025 accredited lab of exporting country and shall be accompanied with consignment not more than three months old from date of despatch from exporting country. 

As per the Food Safety and Standards (Import) Regulations, 2017, imported proprietary foods must be tested for quality parameters as per Certificate of Analysis from exporting country submitted by importer and safety parameters as per the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, Toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011. In this regard, FSSAI has earlier issued an order dated 22nd August 2019. 

This order shall be effective from 1st January 2020.
