FSSAI issues guidelines for availability of safe milk and milk products

FSSAI had issued guidelines for availability of safe milk and milk products, to curb adulteration of milk and milk products. The guidelines states as follows:

  • Milk chilling units are to be kept under strict vigilance to check adulteration or production of spurious milk, which can be added to the milk value chain. Strict action will be taken against any offender found violating the guidelines, thereby penalizing them under the FSS Act, 2006.
  • Surveillance will be intensified during festive seasons, when demand of milk and milk products is high.
  • Periodic transfers of the Food Safety Officers in same or nearby stations.
  • Spread awareness regarding malpractices prevailing at the local levels.
  • Testing and enforcement infrastructure to be strengthened.
