The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare vide its notification dated 7th August 2020 notified the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) First Amendment Regulations, 2020 to further amend the Food Safety and Standards (Contaminants, toxins and Residues) Regulations, 2011.
The Amendment is brought under regulation 2.1 which deals with metal contaminations, in which the Chemicals described in monographs of the Indian Pharmacopoeia when used in foods, shall not contain metal contaminants beyond the limits specified in the appropriate monographs of the Indian Pharmacopoeia for the time being in force.
Therefore through this notification, the ministry has revised the limits of metal contaminants in food products.
